I am an Entrepreneur to be masters of my Destiny.

My Story

Intro

Education can be the most powerful tool to advance yourself and your job prospects. In India the entrance exams to IIT-JEE, AIEEE is the most crucial point for any students, but many students do not have the educational opportunities to effectively prepare for the entrace exams. Vamsi and his 4 co- founders are opening up opportunities for students with their preparation course for college entrance exams, while instilling the right attititudes in the future leaders they produce.

About Me

Myself, Vamsi Krishna, am the only son of my parents. My hometown is in Bangalore, India but most of my education was done in North India. I did my B.Tech in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay  (IIT-B). After graduation, I joined Larsen and Toubro (L&T) as a management trainee and worked there for couple of months before venturing in to the entrepreneurial journey along with three of my friends.

Passion for me comes from anything that I undertake seriously. The reason I took this path of entrepreneurship may have many aspects to it but undoubtedly, the biggest reason of all would be the satisfaction. During my job days I always used to feel a sense of loss of opportunity and that, I was not doing justice to my talent. I always wanted to be the master of my own destiny and I wanted to make a difference in the world. I always felt that there is a need to create something that will induce a positive change in the way we live. I felt whatever one does it should affect people and bring a positive change in the way we live. The higher the impact the better. In my job I always felt that my impact was very limited and hence I felt strangulated.

Having been an entrepreneur for three years I am extremely satisfief by the fact that the entity, which I, along with my friends, founded, was instrumental in creating a positive change in the lives of the people and I guess that satisfaction is the reason why many venture into entrepreneurship.

About myself, I love to interact with people and share experiences. I have taught k10-k12 students over the last three years and absolutely love sharing ideas and motivating them. I am also a budding photographer and love to play flute. I have been a dance choreographer in college and play Volleyball.

Apart from this, I personally love to strategize. Sun Tzu`s “The Art of War” is my favorite book. I have an ability to spot an idea and get it implemented with an organized approach. I always feel upbeat and energetic, I believe in putting up ceaseless effort for things I believe in. With my ability to have a holistic view of numerous processes going on and aligning them with the broader vision, I handle the task of marketing and branding at Lakshya.

My Venture

Lakshya was started by me and my three friends. We used to go to Goa every year and in 2005 we sat by the beach and decided that we need stay together and do something of our own (we were in jobs for 5 months then). This is how it really began.

Lakshya is a Hindi word which means aim. For us our ‘Lakshya’ is to bring about this change in education system. Lakshya is a dream child of four young IIT graduates conceptualized with the aim to revolutionize the way learning is perceived and teaching is delivered. We believe with a proper thought process given to pedagogy, “Learning can be made Interesting” and hence effective.

We have currently started up in the very tangible segment of IIT-JEE, AIEEE and medical entrance examinations training.

Our unique business proposition is our twin focus strategy: Pedagogy, by suing an instruction methodology based on “teacher + innovative digital content module” and teacher training which is done to bring uniformity in delivery and also help us train better and effectively which eventually help us scale faster. We heavily integrate technology into our teaching process and hence create a differentiation as well as a system-based approach. Through these and others practices we wish to bring an organized approach to this sector and innovate the way teaching has been delivered.

The whole Lakshya faculty constantly motivates and inspires students with their own experiences and inculcates values into them. All our students, whether selected in IIT or even who couldn`t qualify, are definitely better individuals in terms of the attitudes they reflect. We try to inculcate in them the habit to learn, relearn, and continue this process for life. This we feel should be the aim of any education system and this is exactly what we want to enable by scaling up – “Create a whole generation of thought leaders”.

After nearly three years of operation of Lakshya we are proud to say that we have not only become a profitable business but also most importantly produced amazing results for our children and been instrumental in shaping many careers. Now even from a small place like Patiala and its nearby towns and villages students believe that they can now aspire and clear even the toughest of competitive examination and make a life for themselves and their families.

Our goal is to operate and sustain a parallel training system to schools, from K1-K12, using our unique pedagogy and instructional methodology, which provides tangibility to students and makes Learning more interesting.

Life at IITs… A dream..!!

Take a break from your Tatva & Tutorials and take a glimpse into the future…

Chappals, Cows and Keedas: Life at IIT-B

Life at IITB is very very different. First, the distances. I hadn’t imagined 200 hectares could be so large. The departments are 10 to 15 minutes walk away, the gate 20 min, library 10 min, etc.

The Institute campus at Powai is situated in picturesque surroundings with Vihar and Powai lake on either side and green hills strewn in between. An added attraction is the varied, colourful and noisy night life in the form of insects. Another things that hits you immediately on entering IIT are the cows (I mean the four legged ones). Can easily be located around the campus, with a beatific expression on their faces as they ruminate about the world and leave their offerings behind. On coming to IIT and enquiring about ragging we were told “There is no ragging in IIT and the moon is made of cheese”. Now I strongly subscribe to the theory of Extra Terrestrial Life. People are very lively and the days are just packed. Conversations are carried out mainly in slang and abbreviations : Insti, LT (Lecture theatre), Convo (Convocation Hall), CC (Computer Center), etc and a combination of words which have no resemblance to any living language.

Hostels : The soul of IIT Don’t be fooled by the peeling paint, these hostels actually boast of amenities like washing machines, canteen, mess, net connections and VCD! The average IITian spends 3/4ths of his college life here and develops a strong sense of attachment, esp to the guys in his “wing”. Can usually be found in the sanctity of his bed during the lecture hours. Initiation into the hostel includes a new name which sticks to you for the next 40 years. Alu, Baccha, Pondy – the weirder the better.

Academics and IIT: The Myth It is quite wrong to say that IITians are book worms. Throughout the year inter hostel competitions in sports, music, dramatics, lit events etc are held. Keeps one busy throughout the year and the hostel spirit alive. With active wildlife, mountaineering, astronomy clubs present in the institute academics can be kept at an arm’s length most of the time except near the exam time, when most people can be seen scurrying around for notes.

Dunking happens: With the temperature soaring to unbearable limits most of the year round, one of the great traditions in the hostels is the concept of dunking. People who refuse to co-operate in dunking fights are forcibly dragged out of their rooms and drenched to the sound of their abuses reverberating to the heavens. Dthe heavens. D bothers about what they wear.

Babes or lack of them: Girls, or rather non-males are negligible. Mostly stag scene. With an abysmal ratio of 1:40 it is not surprising that after Mood Indigo most people can be seen with a glazed look on their faces as to what hit them and a few lucky ones glued to the phones trying their level best to “patao” the babes they met during MI.

To conclude : Over the last 40 years some of the most prominent chief execs, presidents, entrepreneurs, and inventors in the world have graduated from IIT. With most IITians seeking greener pastures abroad it is hardly surprising that Businessweek magazine called the IIT grad one of the “hottest exports India has ever produced”. One thing’s for sure, even if I was given another chance to choose my college, it would still be IIT Bombay.

Rise of a new Sun…

Posted on Oct 23, 2009 12:38:19 AM

Hi all…

I write all this as we sit back in our homes, safe, a bit distracted from our usual tasks, glued to TV, numb…unable to decide how should we react. Should we hate, but whom? Should we fight, but exactly whom? Should we at all care, its not us or ours who died, its not anyone of us who killed!

But if we come to think of it, something of us certainly has been compromised – our freedom.

Imagine having to think twice before going out, imagine being nervous about our near and dear ones when they are out. Imagine having the terrifying feeling of being watched and being aimed at every time we make a move. Imagine…ahh, we don’t have to exert our minds to imagine, not any more…these feelings are getting real!

It’s like getting out to work with thick black cloud cover which can burst into heavy shower anytime, hoping that it will not, at least, not when we are out, and even if it does, the drops somehow will not fall on us. Just that the drops in this case are live bullets!

But why these clouds, what Sun is it that is firing its heat resulting into its formation from droplets of youth, youth that had been pure earlier. This Sun is not natural, we humans have created it. It’s also not solid, exactly like the Sun of gases we all know.

It’s a Sun made up of thoughts, extremely powerful and intense thoughts of hatred… This Sun shines every where, everyday, and even if we don’t believe it…Yes, within us!

Every time we hate someone, something, anything…it shines! Every time we let things get out of our hands and blame someone else for our fate…it shines! Every time we fail to make it to the top because of our lack of hard work and want the one who has made it to the top to fall down…it shines!

We can’t be safe, nor can we shy away from the bullets raining till we first look within and extinguish the Sun… first within and then within others. Because how long can we run to escape, how long can we stay in hibernation, fearing to venture out… we can’t shoo the cloud away but will have to kill the source, the Sun of thoughts itself…

Guys, education in its truest of sense gives us power to keep this Sun of hatred and destruction within us under control. Not just learning Physics, Chemistry, History or any subject for that matter, it gives us the ability to judge what is right and what is wrong for us and for our mutual existence in this ever changing and evolving world.

It’s the stage when you students are evolving as a human being, getting to know the world and how you fit in. Physics or Mathematics are just tools for you to be able to see this world more objectively and quantitatively. But, there is much more to it, much more that you have to learn, in fact, we all have to learn.

Today, at the backdrop of terror that we all are witnessing, I want to use this online platform enabled by the technology that we humans have created to put forth the message of love and respect that we all should have for the mutual existence of us humans, irrespective of our physical, geographical, regional or belief centric differences. The message that howsoever learned or factually knowledgeable we might get, to put that knowledge to use without the values of love, compassion and respect for nature and our existence, it will always be destructive and lead to undesired consequences.

So come on guys, let us all work towards a better today and tomorrow for ourselves and for future generations to come, where we all can live and think freely… where our hearts are filled with love and respect for everything that nature has created.

A world of our dreams…

Amen!!

Early Morning or Late at Night, when should I study??

Posted on Oct 23, 2009 12:37:20 AM

Hello everyone…

It’s an attempt to answer this common query of what should be the ideal time to study!!

Well, one thing is for sure that we just can not have a generalized study approach for everyone to follow. Individuals have their own unique learning patterns and body clocks which every individual should respect.

You are at a stage where you can mold yourself (body and mind) to follow a certain study pattern to some extent…Human body, in general, follows Darwin’s Laws (in a way) and finds a best fit or adapts itself to the situation it is exposed to over a prolonged period of time. It is important to note here that the situation might also be detrimental to the growth or health of the body, still it gets used to it. Common examples of the situation being addiction to alcohol and nicotine.

Moral of the discussion thus far – you are at a stage where you can get your body to follow any pattern, your body will get used to it over a time. But better will be to follow something to which your body responds naturally.

Now the pluses and minuses of both the study patterns:

Studying early in the morning:

Positives:
- It is extremely peaceful, the feeling of starting the day early is a very positive feeling
- You get to witness the magic that nature weaves as Sun makes it way up the horizon, it’s so refreshing (I wonder when I saw it last!!??)
- If you get your momentum going, you actually finish up a lot in the early hours with the whole day to spare and utilize properly
- Undoubtedly good for the body, mind and soul (aisa sabhi bade log bol gaye hain!!)

Negatives:
- Dekho, uth jao subah time se to sab changa hai, aur nahi uth pae to bhai, this is the biggest negative. We tend to plan whole of our next day, hypothyzing that we will get up at say 3am…Alarm bhi bajega, aankh bhi khulegi, but beimaan hum, uthenge nahi…and then, we will get up devastated, with all our plans shattered on the floor. Then, we think, leave it, let’s re-plan and see it from tomm….and ‘Tommorow never comes’
- We waste a lot of time in getting into the flow in the morning…getting up chores, getting mind activated time…the temptation of ‘Razai’…and what not!!
- Breakfast and early morning family chaos (parents leaving home for work and stuff) is bound to disturb us

Studying late in the night:

Positives:
- Absolutely no disturbance time, you are done with dinner…no other work except studies till you sleep (unlike mornings chores)
- The feeling that you are working when the rest of the world is sleeping is amazing, it propels and tempts you to utilize the time to the maximum

Negatives:
- Well, not many!! But it’s not the natural behavior that human body follows so in a way not absolutely right for the body…(Well, I am no expert on this!!)
- Even though you had been up for the whole night, your Mom will anyways force you out of your bed, simply not ready to believe that you were studying for the whole night!! (iska koi ilaaj nahi hai, woh to hoga hi :P )

So, all of you who are in this dilemma of what should your study pattern be…try out different scenarios and discover what suits you the best!

Anyways, wish you all the very best for your school/competitive examinations…be it early or late in the night…Do burn the oil and work hard smile

Raat ka Naara – JAME RAHO!! :P

Never Give Up!!! – just think about it…

Posted on Oct 22, 2009 10:54:27 PM

I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality… I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God. ”

God”, I said. “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?” His answer surprised me… “Look around”, He said. “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?” “Yes”, I replied. “When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. He said. “In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo see. I would not quit.” He said. “Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant…But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.” He said to me. “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots” “I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.” “Don’t compare yourself to others.” He said. “The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful.” “Your time will come”, God said to me. “You will rise high” “How high should I rise” I asked. “How high will the bamboo rise” He asked in return. “As high as it can” I questioned. “Yes.” He said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.” I left the forest and bring back this story. I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you. Never Give up…

Words of some wise man… surely worth a thought and nothing like it if they succeed in giving you some inspiration and motivation to move on… that much needed slight push when you thought you have had enough and wanted to quit…

Lage raho… and Phodte raho… life me rukne aur rone ka scope nahi hai… its a wonderful and exciting journey, live it to the fullest… live it with NEVER SAY DIE spirit… smile
